Then there will be a series of short courses to develop your map skills, followed by a head to head race for those who wish to take the competition further. For more experienced orienteers an Orange* and Light Green* course will also be available. When you arrive, you will receive a dibber* that you will use around each course you do. When you have finished for the day, please return it to registration.

Come and join us for a great introduction to the sport for children, young people and novice adults. Or develop your skills at sprint orienteering. You can of course make use of the other facilities in the park as part of your visit if you wish.

Organiser: Jemima Parker

*Some orienteering terms explained:
Sprint: sprint orienteering is run over shorter distances than ‘normal’ orienteering, with controls more closely spaced. It’s an exciting, extremely enjoyable form of the sport, well suited to parks and more ‘urban’ terrain.
Dibber: an electronic timing chip designed to be carried on the finger, and used to record your visits to each control. The information is then downloaded at the finish to include in results.
Orange, Light Green: orienteering, uses a range of colours to describe the technical difficulty of the courses. The first four colours on the scale are: White (easiest), Yellow, Orange, Light Green.
